Our mission is to provide a positive and safe environment that inspires students to become responsible, well-rounded, civic-minded, global thinkers who are equipped with 21st century skills and are prepared for the academic rigors of high school and future challenges.
Physical Education 7-8
Instructor: Mr. Zappel
The physical education staff will be evaluating individuals on their current level of fitness as well as improvements in their fitness levels made throughout the year. á

Evaluation and Assessment
The students will be graded on their ability to come to class prepared/on time each day and will be evaluated on their level of daily participation, listening/following directions, warm ups and sportsmanship. áBeginning this year, students will also be administered a written exam at the end of each marking period which will account for 5% of the grade.

Our goal is to see individual improvement in the areas of flexibility, agility, strength, strength endurance, and cardiovascular endurance throughout the year.

A major fitness area that the physical education staff is looking for progress in throughout this school year will be the number of times students are able to jump rope in 60 seconds.á

I ENCOURAGE PARENTS AND STUDENTS TO TRACK PROGRESS ON GENESIS WHICH IS UPDATED AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK.

Welcome to My Fushion Page
Marking Period #4
The last marking period will consist of fitness testing, field day preparation, and an archery unit. Each physical fitness test is worth 5 points on Genesis. A physical test will also be administered at the end of the archery unit which will be worth 5 points. We will be going outside often so dress appropriately for the weather.
Marking Period #3
After students perform their dance routines, the basketball unit will begin. Daily assessments will be in the form of preparation, participation/effort, warm-ups, listening, and sportsmanship. A physical test will be administered to determine how many proper lay-ups a student can shoot successfully in 30 seconds.
After the break......We Dance!!!
Five weeks of the dance unit will consist of the students learning about basic dance terminology such: rhythm, beat, and tempo. The assessments will include: daily preparation, participation, listening, warm-ups, sportsmanship, and the creation of a two minute dance routine.
Marking Period #2
The second marking period begins on November 18th. Classes will be participating in volleyball and then a dance unit. Students will be graded daily on: preparation (coming to class on time and with proper physical education attire), warm-ups (routine stretches/exercises), listening (the ability to follow directions the first time given), sportsmanship (consideration and respect for classmates/teachers), and participation/effort (being actively involved in class activities).

A circle volley test will be a timed group volleyball assessment. Students must properly bump or set the ball as many times as possible without the ball hitting the floor.

A group dance assessment will include the creation and performance of a two minute dance routine.

Soccer/Football
Classes are still participating outside at the end of our soccer unit and as the football unit begins. Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather. Assessments towards the end of the marking period will include: daily preparation (on-time with appropriate clothing), daily participation/effort, listening skills, sportsmanship (positive interactions with classmates and teachers), and a warm-up grade (daily stretches/exercises).
Welcome Back!!!
As we begin the school year, the physical education staff will take the time to carefully review class rules, procedures, and expectations. Our fitness unit will begin shortly and will entail the practice/completion of five presidential physical tests including: cardiovascular endurance (mile test), strength endurance (curl-up test), flexibility (sit-and-reach test), strength (pull-up test), and agility (shuttle run test).

****Please dress appropriately for the weather because classes will be using the field outside up to and including November.****
